While owning an electric toothbrush isn’t even remotely necessary to ensure good oral health, there are some benefits to having an electric toothbrush beyond the evidence that they’re slightly better at removing plaque. These benefits include:
- Easier to use with braces
- Great for people with dexterity problems, such as the older adult population or people with disabilities
- Offers a variety of head movements
- Equipped with technology to monitor brushing habits and technique
And while there are drawbacks – primarily the initial cost and the cost of replacement heads, it’s still a good idea to explore whether or not an electric toothbrush is right for you.
One of the biggest manufacturers of electric toothbrushes is Oral-B and it’s the brand we at Toothbrush.org all gravitated towards during our review of different brands and models.
The Best Oral-B Models
Of the many different Oral-B models we considered and tested, we liked the Oral-B Pro 3000 and the Oral-B Pro 1000 the best. Despite not being the most expensive model with all the bells and whistles, the Oral-B Pro 3000 gave us everything we needed and nothing extra.
And while those extra features are nice to have, they’re not necessary nor will they be missed.
Below is a table of Oral-B models we considered and their specifications for pulsation, oscillation, and battery life.
Why we liked Oral-B
The main difference between the top two brands, Oral-B and Sonicare, is how the brush heads work. The Oral-B uses an oscillating brush head while the Sonicare uses “sonic” vibration. Refer to the images below.
We preferred the way the the oscillating brush head left our teeth feeling. And while this is mostly up to personal preference, our testers mostly preferred the Oral-B’s way of cleaning teeth.
And while there are other companies out there that are popping up in the scene, we recommend sticking to the two brands that have been around and have great reputations.
And while these new brands may in fact be great toothbrushes, having a great track record puts Oral-B and Sonicare leading the way.

Although many of the other models have moved on to 3D cleaning, this is a little bit niftier and although the brush when it surrounds your teeth only oscillates and rotates, it still produces a powerful and detailed enough wash that it can live up to its promise of a better brush.

Although the aesthetics and accessories of a product rare important, they are not the most important. Oral-B Pro 2500 Review
There are two special features which we think are smart additions to this electric toothbrush. When pressing too hard with an electric toothbrush you end up bruising the gums. But with the Oral-B Pro 2500 Electric Toothbrush you can avoid this. There is a pressure indicator located on the back of the brush when you press too hard on the gums it sends out a red signal which is quite easy to notice.
